This varies depending on pool use, for example domestic or commercial. Water in a domestic pool should be turned over within a 4-8 hour period, where as a public pool should have a 2-3 hour turnover period.
Pool volume m3 / required turnover period = m3 required by the pump.
When sizing a pool pump, use a pump performance curve and allow for head loss.
