Research & Development

Pentax's activity embraces the phases of conception, design and production (intended as assembly of products), all carried out within the company. Investments planned over the last few years have allowed us to support adequate programs in the Research & Development sector: latest generation machinery for the assembly of particular products and two rooms for testing and study of new concept prototypes, completely automated and equipped with technologically advanced equipment. Thanks to these tools, Foras is able to constantly expand the product range and to look for process innovations that optimise production, with a view to economies of scale.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you maintain a pump in the summer?

It is very important that the pump can draw in sufficient water and that it has not drawn in air. Air in the suction line is always a problem and the pump will never reach the desired pressure and capacity. A centrifugal pump can draw in water to a maximum depth of 8 metres. It is important that the suction line is properly closed and that no air can be drawn into the line and/or connection to the pump. This will also greatly affect the operation of the pump. If the groundwater is deeper than 8 metres, a well pump will have to be chosen. A well pump has no suction pipe and can be hung at any desired depth in the well.

How do you maintain a pump in winter?

It is important that the above-ground centrifugal pump is well drained in winter, so that no freezing occurs in the pump housing. This can be done by unscrewing the drain plugs from the pump housing so that the water can drain. Freezing the water in the pump housing can cause a lot of damage, resulting in unnecessary costs. A well pump can hang in the well in winter. It is good to let the pump run for a long time every now and then, so that the pump cannot get stuck.

What is the best way to adjust a pump?

The pump can be equipped with a pressurised water system or another automatic start/stop system With a pressure switch or a pressure regulator on the pump, the pump starts when the pressure in the system falls below the preset value and stops when it reaches the maximum set value. With a frequency control, you simply set the pressure yourself and the pump maintains the set pressure throughout the system, regardless of the litres that are taken. With little water, the pump will run slowly and therefore consume less power, which is a huge energy saving.

How do I know when the capacity and head are in line with the sprinklers and piping system?

To select the right pump, it is important to know what the decrease is at which pressure. Depending on the number of nozzles in combination with the nozzle, the litres per hour are determined. The distance of the spray sample is determined by the nozzle at a certain pressure. It is the sum of the total liters demanded at a given pressure. In the curve table of the pump you can select a pump that fits the correct pressure and litres. If a large pump comes out in the selection, you can also choose to spray in two or more groups so that you can select a smaller pump.

Which pump is most suitable for which situation?

Garden, field, available farming etc. Depending on the size of the garden or field, a correct pump will have to be chosen. For a normal garden, a self-priming jet pump will generally be chosen. On a somewhat larger field or nursery with larger sprinklers, a larger centrifugal pump is a good choice. If you go to the large irrigation reels, a large well pump is often chosen.
