Water flow meters for measured pipework and process control

Water flow meters support water flow measurement in water meter systems, technical pipework and measurement, regulation and dosing installations. Choose mechanical flow meters for direct water consumption measurement, or select flow monitoring devices where pulse readers, pulse generators or ultrasonic flow sensors are required. Specialist options also cover an electronic flow meter for fuel and a plastic rain gauge, so the correct fluid measurement device should be matched to the medium and installation data.

Inline water flow meters are available in several construction types, including single jet water meters, multi jet water meters, Woltman water meters, paddle water meters, ultrasonic water meters and transparent PVC-U flow meters. For digital water flow measurement requirements, ultrasonic meters and pulse-ready water meter systems provide relevant options where the installation needs signal output or flow monitoring equipment.

Main water meter types

Single jet, multi jet and Woltman water meters

Single jet water meters and multi jet water meters are shown with male thread connections, brass or nylon bodies, and horizontal versions with pulse options. Several water meters are marked with 10 bar or 16 bar pressure ratings, and selected models carry CE/MID, MID or KIWA references. Check the required connection size, pulse option and installation orientation before selecting a meter.

Woltman water meters are available with cast iron or brass bodies and flange or DIN flange connections. These water consumption meters suit installations where the pipework specification calls for flanged meter connection rather than threaded connection. Product data includes DN sizes such as DN50, DN80 and DN100, depending on the meter type.

Ultrasonic and paddle flow measurement

Ultrasonic water meters are available in brass, cast iron, ductile iron and stainless steel versions, with male thread or DIN flange connections. Several ultrasonic models are marked as Class 2 and include MID or CE/MID references. Some versions use a 3.6 V lithium battery according to the product data, while others use 24 VDC.

Paddle water meters are also available for inline flow measurement. A cast iron horizontal paddle water meter is shown with a DIN flange connection and 10 bar pressure rating. These flow measurement equipment choices should be selected by matching the meter body, pressure rating, flange requirement and nominal size to the pipework design.

Materials, connections and pressure ratings

Water flow meters and flow monitoring devices are available with brass, nylon, cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel, aluminium and PVC-U construction, depending on the model. Connection options include male thread, female thread, glue socket, flange and DIN flange. Transparent PVC-U flow meters use glue socket connections and are shown with a 10 bar pressure rating, while brass flow meters are shown with male thread connections and 10 bar ratings.

Several water meter systems are marked 16 bar, while other flow meters show 10 bar, 10.3 bar, 13.8 bar or 21 bar ratings. The 21 bar aluminium electronic flow meter is specified for fuel, so it should not be treated as a general water meter without checking the product specification. Select inline flow sensors and fluid measurement devices by matching the medium, connection type and rated pressure to the installation requirement.

Accessories for pulse and meter connections

Water meter accessories include pulse readers, pulse generators and brass threaded accessories with flat seals. Pulse readers with cable, 24 VDC references and pulse generator options support water meter systems where remote flow monitoring or signal connection is required. Threaded nuts, male thread adaptors and flat seal accessories should be selected to match the meter connection and existing pipework.

Practical selection points for water flow measurement

Start with the measurement method required by the installation: single jet, multi jet, Woltman, paddle, ultrasonic or a standard flow meter. Then check the body material, connection type and nominal size. DN references such as DN15, DN20, DN50, DN65, DN80, DN100 and DN125 are used across different meters, while inch thread sizes are also used on threaded water meters and flow meters.

Confirm whether the installation needs a horizontal meter, a DIN flange connection, a male or female threaded connection, or a glue socket connection. Check whether CE/MID, MID, KIWA or WRAS references are required for the project. For process flow instrumentation and water consumption meters, the correct accessory choice is also important when pulse output, cable connection or flat seal connection hardware is needed.
