Pool filtration for swimming pool water treatment

Pool filtration equipment is used in swimming pool water treatment systems where filters, media and control components need to work together. Pool filter systems may combine a sand filter, cartridge filter, deepbed filter or pre-filtration unit with suitable pool filter media and valves. Select each component by matching the filter type, media requirement, connection type and pressure rating with the existing pool installation.

Filter media for pool water filtration

Pool filter media options include filter sand, filter gravel, glass filter media and glass pearls. Available media sizes include 0.4-0.8 mm filter sand in 25 kg bags, 3.15-5.6 mm filter gravel in 25 kg bags, grade 1 glass filter media at 0.6-1.2 mm in 20 kg bags, grade 3 glass filter media at 3.0-6.0 mm in 20 kg bags and glass pearls at 0.6-0.8 mm in 20 kg bags. Match media type and grading to the filter unit specification before ordering.

Swimming pool filters and filter units

Swimming pool filters include sand filters, cartridge filters, deepbed filters and pre-filtration units. Product constructions include polyester gelcoated, HDPE, fibreglass-reinforced polyester, fibreglass-reinforced PP and glass-filled polypropylene, depending on the filter type. Connection options include metric and imperial glue socket, glue spigot, hose tail, female thread and male thread configurations.

Sand filters are available with pressure ratings such as 2.5 bar and 2.8 bar, while cartridge filters and pre-filtration units include 3.5 bar options. Deepbed filters include 2.5 bar versions and models supplied with a 6-way valve. Check the stated pressure rating and connection size against the pool circulation system before selecting a filter unit.

Valves, cartridges and filtration accessories

Pool filtration accessories cover components used around the main filter unit, including multiport valves, automatic backwash valves, replacement filter cartridges, RCD protection, a pro valve compressor and a bottom pallet. Multiport valve options include 4-way and 6-way valve types, clamp valve versions and piping kit versions for top mount or side mount filters.

Female thread sizes include 1 1/2 and 2 options on several multiport valves. Other accessories include a 50 mm glue spigot automatic backwash valve and a 15 micron filter cartridge supplied as four pieces. Select accessories by checking the filter model, mounting position, connection type and any electrical details such as 230 VAC where relevant.

Filtersets and integrated pool filter equipment

Pool filtersets combine filtration components for swimming pool water cleaning systems. Options include PE filter sets with 32-38 mm hose tail connections, 2 bar pressure ratings and 230 VAC configurations, including versions with a timer. Other filter sets use PE or fibreglass-reinforced polyester with metric and imperial glue socket connections, 2.5 bar ratings and an RCD plug.

Filter set selection depends on the pipework connection, available installation space, power supply and preferred media arrangement. HDPE filter sets with hose tail connections and Aqualoon media are another option. For replacement or upgrade work, compare the complete filter set with separate filters, valves and media so that connection sizes and operating details remain aligned.

Selecting compatible pool filtration components

Reliable pool water filtration depends on component compatibility rather than a single item. Check the filter body material, pressure rating, connection format and required filter media as a set. Metric and imperial glue socket options should be matched with existing pipework, while hose tail, female thread and male thread products should be matched to the corresponding fittings and valves.

For maintenance planning and future servicing, consider whether the installation needs spare media, replacement cartridges, a multiport valve, an automatic backwash valve or electrical protection accessories. Matching these pool filter components at the point of selection helps keep the filtration system consistent with the chosen filter unit and pool water treatment layout.
